Single Antique Japanese Tansu Chest with Interior Safe and Hand-Forged Iron Fittings

An exceptional single-section antique Japanese tansu chest from the late Meiji period (1868-1912), crafted from solid kiri (paulownia) wood and featuring kiri drawer fronts and a sugi (Japanese cedar) frame. Retaining its original hand-forged iron hardware - including warabite-style handles, decorative corner brackets, and lock plates- it also features an elaborate interior safe.  Designed for both function and versatility, its symmetrical arrangement of drawers and compartments provides generous storage, while its refined craftsmanship and minimalist design celebrate the elegance and sophistication of Japanese design.
