Antique Two Section Japanese Isho Kimono Chest
Japanese isho tansu dating to the Taisho period (1912–1926), constructed from kiri (paulownia) and sugi (Japanese cedar). Made for storing kimonos and textiles, the chest comprises two stacking sections, each containing two full-width drawers with kiri interiors.
Original bronze and iron fittings include bail handles with chrysanthemum-inspired backplates, decorative corner straps, and round lock escutcheons bearing a crane motif. The drawer fronts show the wood’s grain beneath a warm brown finish, with visible wear consistent with age and use.
The sections can be stacked as a four-drawer chest or placed separately for use as low storage cabinets.
