Interior designer Kay Wiegand cooked up a recipe to add some Italian flavor to her traditional Edgeworth home, built in 1833. Mrs. Wiegand collaborated with Stacy Weiss, owner of Weisshouse, Weisshouse designer Ron Reinheimer, architect Bill Childes to redesign her 900 sq. ft. kitchen into a contemporary Italian statement by Poliforn/Varenna.
Coastal Living / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, April 2007
After leaving his job as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bill Cowher, his wife Kaye and their 3 daughters retreated to a new vacation home off the coast of North Carolina. “It was really great working with Kaye,” said Stacy Weiss, whose store provided and installed all the furniture, plus a Poliform kitchen and roasted coffee-colored African wenge floors. “We flew down and installed it all,” said Weiss. “Bill knew Kaye was going contemporary but really didn’t see any of the furniture selection before he walked in the door to the finished product. He loved it.”
Junior League Showhouse 2007, April 2007
In April 2007, the Junior League of Pittsburgh and a team of 25 designers transformed an empty house with great bones into a beautiful design statement: ”Here is a knockout…a chandelier of mussel shells that brilliantly reflects on the ceiling of Weisshouse’s luxuriously masculine study for a globe-trotting bon vivant.”
- Jean Horne, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Whirl Magazine, Dec 2005
As president of a home furnishings store, Stacy Weiss has to stay current with the latest trends in interior design. Each spring for the past 6 years, she has traveled to Italy for the Milan Furniture Fair. Stacy says, “Going to the Milan Fair is like going to a Paris runway show. A lot of what you see is over the top to create dramatic effect, but it inspires me to translate these trends for my practical but style-conscious clients”. Here are some top trends: Sectionals are back. Hard edges are softening. Earth tones dominate.
Whirl Magazine, October 2004
Two of the “Weissguys” from Weisshouse, one of the hippest furniture stores in the region, reveal their current favorites: “Wenge, a dark African wood, seems to be a trend right now,” notes Stan Adamik. Anthony Lamb says, “Most people I find have eclectic decorating styles, and with this buffet’s clean lines and wood, it’s a perfect piece for mixing and matching.”
Pittsburgh Business Times, July 29 – August 4, 2005
In 1996, Weisshouse opened a new store on Walnut Street in Shadyside, which sold furniture and accessories. The original Squirrel Hill store followed in 1998, to a Highland Avenue space large enough to sell carpet, area rugs and furniture. But for Stacy Weiss, president of Weisshouse, a prime spot on Walnut Street is one she’s willing to give up. Weiss says it’s less about consolidation than the realization of how their business – which employs 17 and sees over $5 million in annual sales – has grown. Weisshouse is a destination store, and with its 14,000 square foot showroom, the Highland Avenue location has realized about 10 times the business of the Walnut Street store.
Pittsburgh Magazine, March 2003
Weisshouse products have been used in most of Pittsburgh Magazine’s “Superior Interiors” contest winners since 1999.
In fact, our own Anthony Lamb won the top prize in 2003. His design solution was to create a serene environment to counterpoint the homeowners’ harried lifestyle. Details were key in this particular space, where the contemporary blended with the primitive. Clean lines made this interior a winner.
InFurniture, January to December 2001
The monthly trend magazine for the furniture industry profiled Weisshouse for their monthly feature ”Diary of a Dealer,” and for 12 months, Stacy and the rest of the staff filed reports about business, operations, marketing and promotions.
